President Murmu urges universities to impart value-based education, nurture future nation-builders

Bhubaneswar, Aug 3 (UNI) President Droupadi Murmu on Monday called upon universities to provide value-based education and create an environment that enables young people to develop their talents and fulfil their aspirations, saying higher educational institutions have a crucial role in building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Inaugurating Jagadguru Kripalu University at Cuttack, the President said universities should function as centres of knowledge where innovative ideas and technologies are developed to address the needs of society. She said institutions of higher learning bear the responsibility of shaping responsible citizens guided by integrity, discipline, sensitivity and commitment to the national interest.

The knowledge acquired by students, she said, becomes truly meaningful only when it is used for the service of humanity, the welfare of society and the progress of the nation. Emphasising the importance of ethical values, Murmu said students should embrace modern knowledge without losing sight of moral principles. She expressed satisfaction that Jagadguru Kripalu University would promote research, innovation and entrepreneurship while simultaneously fostering the cultural and spiritual development of its students. The President expressed confidence that the university would produce skilled professionals, researchers and entrepreneurs who would contribute significantly to the vision of a 'Viksit Odisha' and a 'Viksit Bharat'.

Highlighting Odisha's rich legacy, Murmu said the state has long been a centre of knowledge, culture, spirituality and service. For centuries, she noted, the sacred land of Mahaprabhu Jagannath has spread the message of inclusivity, compassion and human welfare.

She also praised Cuttack's outstanding contribution to public service, literature and culture, saying the establishment of Jagadguru Kripalu University in such a historically significant region would serve as a powerful platform for nation-building by blending India's ancient cultural and spiritual traditions with modern education.
