Namo Bharat Showcased at NCRTC Stall at Urban Mobility India 2026 in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Oct 23 (UNI) Namo Bharat, India's first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), showcasing a modern, commuter-centric approach to regional mobility, emerged as a key attraction at the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) exhibition stall at Urban Mobility India (UMI) 2026 in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu inaugurated the NCRTC stall, which highlights the transformative potential of high-speed regional rail, seamless integration of transport networks and transit-oriented development in shaping sustainable and well-connected urban regions.
Since the commencement of operations on its priority section in October 2023, Namo Bharat has emerged as a preferred mode of transport for commuters travelling along the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, offering faster, safer and more comfortable regional connectivity.
The growing popularity of the service is reflected in the corridor recording more than 4.5 crore passenger journeys, benefiting over one lakh commuters every day.
The success of Namo Bharat also underlines the potential of the Regional Rapid Transit System model for replication across other parts of the country. Designed to facilitate longer-distance travel with fewer stops, the semi-high-speed regional mobility system has attracted interest from several state governments.
Nearly 2,900 kilometres of potential Namo Bharat corridors have been identified across major regional clusters in the country. The Economic Survey 2025-26 has also underscored the importance of developing mega-regions as new engines of economic growth, highlighting the role of integrated transport infrastructure in supporting regional development.
The NCRTC exhibition presents the evolution of the 82-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, which comprises 15 stations, along with the integration of Meerut Metro services over the same infrastructure.
A key focus of the exhibition is NCRTC's commitment to Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), an urban planning approach that integrates transport infrastructure with planned development around transit stations.
Under this approach, Namo Bharat is envisioned as more than a regional transport system. It is designed to support balanced and sustainable urban growth, improve access to affordable housing and encourage the development of well-connected residential, commercial and mixed-use neighbourhoods.
Proposed developments around Duhai Namo Bharat station and Sarai Kale Khan, along with planned TOD townships at Harnandipuram and New Meerut, illustrate how coordinated transport and land-use planning can help create more accessible, liveable and sustainable urban regions.
The NCRTC stall also features interactive models, detailed information and visual displays highlighting the system's modern design, advanced technology and commuter-focused innovations.
Visitors are being offered a first-hand experience of how Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies are being used in the development and maintenance of the Namo Bharat system, demonstrating the role of emerging digital tools in modern transport infrastructure.
Through its expanding network, integration with other modes of transport and focus on transit-oriented development, NCRTC is showcasing how modern regional mobility infrastructure can improve connectivity while supporting sustainable urbanisation.
The 2026 edition of Urban Mobility India is being jointly organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, and the Government of Odisha.
With the theme 'Urban Accessibility and Liveability in Digital Age', the event focuses on improving urban accessibility, integrating transport infrastructure and enhancing quality of life through emerging digital technologies.
The two-day event brings together policymakers, transport authorities, industry representatives, technology providers and experts to exchange knowledge and explore innovative solutions for sustainable and efficient mobility.
NCRTC Managing Director Shalabh Goel, along with senior management officials, welcomed union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu, Odisha Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, Secretary in the Department of Urban Development, MoHUA, Satendra Singh, and other dignitaries at the exhibition stall.
The exhibition highlights NCRTC's broader vision of creating an integrated regional mobility ecosystem in which efficient public transport, advanced technology and planned urban development work together to build more connected, accessible and sustainable cities.
