Jharkhand revives Sarna code demand before Census

Ranchi, May 3 (UNI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has written to the President, Prime Minister and Governor seeking inclusion of a separate Sarna religious code in the 2027 Census. In separate letters dated May 1, Soren urged the Centre to recognise Sarna as a distinct religious identity for tribal communities and provide a separate enumeration category. Soren said, "A separate code for Sarna religion in the Census will ensure proper recognition of the tribal community's religious identity."
