Patna, Oct 28 (UNI) Bihar is likely to witness increased rainfall over the next four days under the influence of severe cyclonic storm Arnab, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of heavy to very heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds across several parts of the state.
According to the Meteorological Centre, rainfall activity is expected to intensify between October 28 and 31 due to the influence of the cyclonic system and active easterly winds.
Light to moderate rain is likely at many places, while heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in isolated areas. Winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are also expected at some places. Farmers have been advised to harvest mature Kharif crops, particularly paddy, and store the produce in safe, dry locations. Those who have not yet harvested their crops have been advised to suspend harvesting operations during adverse weather conditions.
The advisory also recommends postponing additional irrigation and ensuring proper drainage in agricultural fields to prevent waterlogging and crop damage. Residents have been urged to exercise caution during thunderstorms and lightning. People should stay away from open fields, tall trees, electricity poles and water bodies during lightning activity and seek shelter inside a strong, permanent building.
Taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms should be strictly avoided. The IMD has forecast continued thunderstorm and lightning activity across Bihar through October 31, with very heavy rainfall possible at isolated places on October 29 and 30.
