ECoR urges passengers to follow crowd management, safety guidelines amid festive rush

Bhubaneswar, Nov 7 (UNI) With passenger footfall rising sharply during the festive season, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has appealed to passengers to strictly follow crowd management measures and safety guidelines to ensure safe, smooth and hassle-free journeys across its jurisdiction.

The Railway has urged passengers to cooperate with railway authorities and maintain discipline at stations and onboard trains to prevent overcrowding, avoidable congestion and untoward incidents during the festive rush. To manage the increased passenger movement, ECoR has put in place several arrangements, including the operation of special trains, enhanced security deployment involving the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), and close monitoring of passenger movement at railway stations.

Passengers have been advised to maintain orderly queues while entering and exiting stations, purchasing tickets and boarding trains. They have also been cautioned against rushing, pushing or creating unnecessary congestion, particularly on foot overbridges (FOBs), escalators, staircases and near platform edges. ECoR has further appealed to travellers to strictly follow the instructions issued by RPF, GRP and other railway officials deployed for crowd management. Passengers should reach stations well ahead of their scheduled departure, pay attention to public announcements, verify platform numbers and board trains in an orderly manner. Emphasising passenger safety, the Railway has warned against dangerous and prohibited practices such as travelling on the footboards, buffers or rooftops of trains. Such acts are extremely hazardous and punishable under railway rules.

The Railway has also reiterated that carrying inflammable materials, firecrackers and other prohibited items on trains or railway premises is strictly forbidden. Passengers have been advised to remain vigilant about their personal belongings and immediately report any unattended luggage or suspicious activity to RPF personnel or through Railway Helpline No. 139. ECoR has appealed to passengers to extend their cooperation and adhere to all safety instructions, stressing that public awareness, discipline and collective responsibility are essential for ensuring safe and comfortable train journeys during the festive season.
