Bengal: Three-century-old Durga Puja tradition brings Hindu, Muslim communities together at Sarkarbari

Hooghly, Oct 7 (UNI) The present generation of Sarkarbari of Baliya in the Arambagh subdivision continues to uphold a three-century-old tradition of performing the Durga Puja Sandhya Arati and recitation of Azan together under the same Durga Puja mandap, transcending religious barriers and upholding the spirit of humanity. The eldest member of the present generation of Sarkarbari, aged Hena Sarkar, said that three centuries ago, then zamindar Babu Ram Sarkar started the Durga Puja.
