Dust storms blanket Delhi; Palam records wind speeds of 93 kmph, causing flight disruptions

New Delhi, Jun 15 (UNI): Delhi skies darkened as powerful dust storms swept across the National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday afternoon, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for severe thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds disrupting flight operations.
Palam weather station logged wind speeds of 93 kmph, the highest recorded in the city, according to IMD data. Squally winds were also reported at Safdarjung, gusting up to 50 kmph.
Besides Palam and Safdarjung, Pusa recorded wind speeds of 78 kmph, while Ayanagar registered 65 kmph during the afternoon.
