Drug seizure triggers chain of violence in Manipur's Bishnupur; 18 injured in firing, four arrested

Imphal/Bishnupur, Apr 14 (UNI) A major drug seizure at Tulihal Airport today set off a chain of events that culminated in fresh violence in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, where at least 18 people, including five women, were seriously injured in firing during clashes between security forces and a mob.
According to police, a joint team of CISF and Airport Police conducted an operation at Imphal Airport and arrested one suspected drug peddler, identified as Md. Sabir Ahamed of Kwakta Khuman Thongkhong under Moirang Sub-Division in Bishnupur district.
Upon examination of his checked-in baggage, approximately 6.74 kg (including container weight) of suspected brown sugar concealed inside six containers was recovered and seized.
