Gorakhpur, July 14 (UNI) Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police killed a dreaded criminal accused of murdering a BSP leader in an encounter on late Monday night.
The deceased carried a bounty of ₹1 lakh on his head.
The encounter took place in the Ramnagar Karjaha area, 10 km from the district headquarters. Fifteen rounds of firing occurred from both sides during the 30-minute encounter.
When the STF and police tried to stop him, he opened fire.In retaliatory fire, he was shot in the leg and near the eye. He died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Criminal Mustafizul Hasan had murdered BSP leader Kalamuddin alias Kamalu four years ago. Kalamuddin had contested the Nizamabad assembly constituency in Azamgarh on a BSP ticket.
Mustafizul was constantly changing locations, so the police were unable to catch him.
In December 2024, the police arrested Mustafizul from Gujarat, but while being transported to Azamgarh, he jumped off a moving train near Amravati railway station in Maharashtra, pretending to need a restroom.
Mustafizul was a resident of the Mehnagar police station area of Azamgarh. He had 10 cases registered against him in Azamgarh (8), Hardoi (1), and Amravati (1) in Maharashtra, under sections such as murder and robbery.
