Donation Misuse: Karnataka temples to get new hundi security SOP

Bengaluru, July 13 (UNI) In a major move aimed at protecting devotees’ offerings and ensuring transparency in temple administration, the Karnataka government is preparing a stringent Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the security of hundis (donation boxes) in temples managed by the Muzrai department.
The new framework will bring tighter monitoring of donation boxes, cash collection and counting procedures, with enhanced surveillance and accountability measures to prevent theft, misuse and irregularities.
The move follows directions from Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to strengthen security arrangements in major Muzrai temples across the state. The government has instructed officials to ensure comprehensive CCTV coverage of areas where hundis are placed, opened and donations are counted.
