Deve Gowda seeks Rs 10 lakh relief for Hassan victims

Hassan, Sept 13 (UNI Former Prime Minister D Deve Gowda today urged Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to enhance the ex-gratia announced for families of the victims of the Hassan road tragedy, in which nine people were killed during a Ganesha procession on NH-373.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) where the injured are undergoing treatment, Gowda said most of those who died or were hurt were young earning members of their families. "I appeal to the Chief Minister to increase the compensation for the bereaved families from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh," he said.
The Janata Dal (Secular) patriarch announced that his party would provide an assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 25,000 to those seriously injured.
