Dense fog and rising chill forecast for North India as western disturbance approaches

New Delhi, Jan 19 (UNI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dense fog over several parts of Delhi on Monday morning. Maximum and minimum temperatures in the capital are expected to hover around 25 degree Celsius and 8 degree Celsius, respectively.
A gradual rise in daytime temperatures is predicted from today, with Delhi-NCR likely to see daytime temperatures around 24 degree Celsius and nighttime temperatures falling to nearly 7 degree Celsius.
However, this slight rise offers only a brief respite. A fresh western disturbance is expected to affect the western Himalayan region from January 19, which could lead to heavy rain or snowfall in some areas until January 23. This system is likely to influence weather across Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.
The IMD predicts that dense fog conditions will persist over parts of northwest India, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar for the next two to three days. While the cold wave has weakened, it has not fully abated. Minimum temperatures are expected to rise slightly, but the chill will remain.
From January 19 to 22, temperatures in Delhi are likely to remain steady without significant fluctuation. Yet, dense fog may continue to blanket several areas during early mornings and late nights, prompting advisories for residents to remain cautious.
Looking ahead, the western disturbance is expected to bring isolated rainfall to Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and parts of western Uttar Pradesh by January 23. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may experience fog, with light to moderate rain or snowfall forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh.
After January 22, weather conditions are expected to shift again, potentially bringing a drop in temperatures and a return of colder conditions to the plains.
