Delhi: Rs 7 cr fines on construction sites flouting pollution norms, says Sirsa

New Delhi, Dec 6 (UNI) Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said on Saturday that the government has imposed over Rs 7 crore in fines this year on construction sites found violating pollution regulations.
He mentioned that a total of 1,750 sites were inspected, resulting in 556 notices being issued and 48 units being ordered to shut down for violating pollution control norms.
“Over the past two days, officials conducted a total of 433 inspections related to roads and garbage: 230 by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, 110 by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, 36 by the Public Works Department, 32 by the Delhi Development Authority, 17 by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation, and eight by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, leading to show-cause penalties totalling about Rs 1 crore,” said the Minister.
