Delhi: New Excise Policy draft likely to be opened for public feedback in Jan

New Delhi, Dec 16 (UNI) The Delhi government is moving closer to finalising a new excise policy, with a ministerial committee headed by Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma preparing a comprehensive draft aimed at regulatory reform, consumer transparency and better urban planning.
According to official sources, the draft policy is expected to be placed in the public domain by January to invite suggestions and feedback from citizens and stakeholders. Once the consultation process is completed, the policy will be submitted for approval to the Cabinet and subsequently to the Lieutenant Governor before formal notification.
One of the key focus areas of the proposed policy is the rationalisation of liquor outlets across the capital. The committee is considering measures to reduce the presence of liquor stores in residential neighbourhoods. Delhi currently has over 720 liquor vends operating across different zones.
