New Delhi, March 15 (UNI) The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) recorded a steady rise in passenger journeys over the past two years, according to official data, reflecting increasing commuter usage across the Delhi-NCR Metro network.
Data released by DMRC shows that the Metro recorded 2,283.5 million passenger journeys in 2024, equivalent to around 223.5 crore journeys, with an average daily ridership of about 62.39 lakh passengers.
The numbers increased further in 2025, when the network registered 2,358.03 million passenger journeys, or about 235.8 crore journeys, translating into an average of 64.60 lakh passenger journeys per day.
The figures indicate a gradual increase in passenger inflow on the Delhi Metro network over the past two years.
Ridership records were also broken during the period. The highest passenger journeys in 2024 were recorded on November 18, when 78,67,649 passengers travelled on the network in a single day.
The record was surpassed the following year on August 8, 2025, when 81,87,674 passenger journeys were recorded, the highest single-day ridership on the Delhi Metro so far.
The data comes at a time when the Metro network has also seen further expansion.
With the inauguration of two new sections on the Pink Line and Magenta Line on March 8, the Delhi Metro continues to remain the largest operational Metro network in the country.
According to official figures, Metro rail systems in India currently operate more than 1,143 kilometres of track across 26 cities, handling nearly 1.15 crore passenger journeys every day. The Delhi Metro alone accounts for more than 55 per cent of these daily passenger journeys.
Out of the 1,143 km operational Metro network in the country, the Delhi-NCR region accounts for around 416 km with 303 stations. This includes approximately 29 km of the Noida-Greater Noida Metro with 21 stations and about 13 km of Rapid Metro Gurugram with 12 stations connecting Delhi with NCR cities such as Noida, Greater Noida and Gurugram.
The Delhi Metro currently operates 343 trains comprising 2,368 coaches and runs around 4,508 train trips daily, covering nearly 1,40,112 train kilometres every day across the network.
Driverless train operations are currently available on the Pink Line and the Magenta Line. The Pink Line spans 71.55 km from Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur including Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar, while the Magenta Line covers 49.19 km from Krishna Park Extension to Botanical Garden and Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park.
At present, 80 trains operate on these two driverless corridors, according to officials.
Meanwhile, Phase-IV priority corridors of the Delhi Metro are currently under construction. Officials said 52 new trains are being procured in phases to support future operations, out of which 18 trains have already been delivered.
