Delhi Govt moves Supreme Court against HC's retrospective pay order

New Delhi, Feb 16 (UNI) The Delhi government has moved the Supreme Court of India, challenging a Delhi High Court order directing payment of enhanced remuneration to law researchers with retrospective effect.
The issue stems from an August 2023 decision by a committee of judges of the High Court approving an increase in monthly remuneration for law researchers from Rs 65,000 to Rs 80,000, effective October 1, 2022. The proposal received the Chief Justice's approval and was subsequently forwarded to the Delhi government.
While the government granted its approval on September 3, 2025, it made the revised pay applicable prospectively from September 2, 2025. During the pendency of the proposal, certain law researchers moved the High Court seeking implementation of the hike from the earlier date.
