Delhi: Congress targets BJP govt over DERC-approved surcharge

New Delhi, June 13 (UNI) The Delhi Congress today accused the BJP-led state government of imposing an additional financial burden on electricity consumers following the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission's (DERC) approval of a higher Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS).
Addressing a press conference here, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav alleged that the decision would increase electricity costs for consumers at a time when power demand is high during the summer season. He claimed that the move would add to the financial strain already being faced by residents due to rising prices of fuel and cooking gas.
Yadav also alleged that the BJP government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, had failed to fulfil several election promises while allowing additional costs to be passed on to consumers. He questioned the accumulation of unrecovered dues amounting to Rs ₹38,500 crore, saying power distribution companies have continued to collect bills regularly from consumers.
