Deepika Padukone’s ‘LiveLoveLaugh’ marks decade of transforming mental health conversations

New Delhi, Oct 10 (UNI) As the world marks World Mental Health Day today, The LiveLoveLaugh Foundation (LLL), founded by actor and mental health advocate Deepika Padukone, celebrates a significant milestone: 10 years of advocacy, awareness, and accessible mental health care in India.
Posting a joint collaborative video post on Instagram TLL foundation page and Deepika wrote, “To mark World Mental Health Day, and our 10th anniversary, Our Founder, Deepika Padukone , Chairperson, Drshyam_bhat , CEO, Anisha Padukone and the team, visited Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh. Along with our partners and our program beneficiaries in Chhindwara, the visit was an opportunity to reflect on our shared mission of building a more inclusive mental health ecosystem.”
“Here’s to Ten Years of Live Love Laugh -- to spreading awareness, fostering empathy, and inspiring change.(World Mental Health Day, Mental Health For All, LiveLoveLaugh)”, they added.
Reflecting on the journey that began in 2015, Padukone shared how her personal experience with depression sparked a national conversation that was long overdue.
“At the time, it was really about helping more and more people understand and identify what they were going through,” she said.
“Sharing my symptoms publicly helped others relate, and I continue to hear from people who say it saved a life or helped their loved one. That gratitude… there’s nothing like it.”
In the decade since, LiveLoveLaugh has emerged as a pioneering force in mental health advocacy, integrating global clinical practices with culturally rooted approaches.
“Psychotherapy has to be appropriate to the culture and community it serves,” noted a spokesperson for the foundation.
“In India, that often means combining evidence-based treatments with practices like yoga and meditation, which align deeply with our traditions.”
The foundation’s core belief, that no life should be lost due to mental illness, has remained central to its mission. Over the years, LLL has conducted large-scale awareness campaigns, offered grassroots-level support, and created school and rural programs, all while fostering open conversations around mental well-being.
“Not only have we impacted lives, I truly believe we’ve saved many lives along the way,” Padukone emphasized.
Marking its 10th anniversary, the foundation extended heartfelt gratitude to the many stakeholders behind its success, from trustees, donors, and program partners, to the beneficiaries and families at the heart of the movement.
Looking ahead, LiveLoveLaugh has set its sights on expanding access to mental health care across India, particularly in underserved regions. The vision for the next decade is bold yet simple: to make conversations around mental health as common, and as accepted, as playing gully cricket.
“I can’t think of a better analogy,” said Padukone with a smile. “That’s the level of familiarity and ease we want to see when it comes to mental health.”
As LLL steps into its second decade, its mission is clear — to continue breaking stigma, deepening access, and ensuring that mental health becomes a national priority, one conversation at a time.
