Day-long prog in Etah has 500 women taking copper-T insertions: 101 centres of UP dist

Etah, Jan 1 (UNI) Etah district of Uttar Pradesh today made a major stride in reproductive healthcare and family planning when as many as 101 sub-centres of the district carried out a total of 500 copper-T insertions in women as part of a joint venture by the state government and non-profit organization HLFPPT.
The three-day programme which concludes tomorrow assumes significance, given that Etah has a higher-than-normal fertility rate at 4.2 and that it is the only one of 75 districts of the state to come up with a ‘Fixed Day Service’ for insertion of IUCD or intrauterine contraceptive device.
Fixed Day Service implies that the first Friday of every month will be dedicated for IUCD insertions as well as follow-up checkups of patients who have already undergone the quick and easy procedure involving what is widely hailed as the most effective non-hormonal contraceptive device.
