Cyclone: India’s rapid humanitarian mission in Sri Lanka led by 109 Helicopter Unit

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 10 (UNI) As Cyclone Ditwha triggered one of the worst natural disasters that Sri Lanka has faced in decades, unleashing unprecedented floods and landslides across multiple districts in early December, the Indian Air Force (IAF) played a commendable role in relief and rescue effort by saving lives and providing supplies to affected areas.
Responding swiftly under its “Neighbourhood First” policy, the Government of India launched Operation Sagar Bandhu, mounting a comprehensive humanitarian assistance and disaster relief mission.
Under the operation, the Indian Air Force (IAF) deployed heavy-lift aircraft, helicopters and Special Forces teams to transport NDRF personnel, deliver relief consignments and support large-scale search, rescue and rehabilitation efforts, a release said.
