Cyberfraud hits elderly couple in Faridabad, Rs 1.90 crore stolen

Chandigarh, Jan 21 (UNI) Faridabad police have launched an investigation after an elderly couple fell victim to a large-scale cyber fraud, losing approximately Rs 1.90 crore. The couple filed a complaint at the Cyber Police Station, prompting authorities to register a formal case and begin tracing the culprits.
According to the police, the scammers contacted the victims claiming to be officials from government agencies, banks, or legal authorities. Through calls and messages, they warned the couple of alleged issues with their bank accounts or identity documents and threatened legal action if immediate steps were not taken.
Frightened and misled, the couple followed the instructions of the fraudsters, transferring large sums in multiple instalments to accounts provided by the scammers. By the time they realised the deception, nearly Rs 1.90 crore had been siphoned from their accounts.
