Custodial death in Dharamshala jail must be probed fairly: MLA Sudhir Sharma

Dharamshala, May 21 (UNI) Dharamshala MLA Sudhir Sharma demanded a fair and time-bound judicial inquiry into the death of a convicted youth inside Dharamshala jail.
In a statement issued here, Sharma said the actual cause of death must be established through an impartial investigation so that justice can be ensured for the bereaved family. He termed any death occurring in police or judicial custody as an extremely serious matter and said protection of human rights remains paramount in a democratic system. He added that an independent judicial probe was essential to remove any doubts surrounding such incidents.
The MLA said if the administration has already initiated the process of judicial inquiry, it should be conducted with complete transparency and impartiality, and the report should be made public. He also urged the authorities to provide every possible assistance to the family of the deceased.
