CPI slams Bihar move on satellite township land transactions

Patna, 18 June (UNI): The Bihar unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) today alleged that the state government's decision to lift restrictions on land transactions in Greenfield Satellite Township areas amounted to a betrayal of farmers and landowners.
State CPI Secretary Ram Naresh Pandey said here that the government was forcing farmers to sell their land to the Bihar State Housing Board and big corporate houses. He alleged that while the restrictions had been eased, ordinary citizens would still be unable to purchase land directly from farmers.
Pandey said the state Cabinet's decision had exposed the government's intention to facilitate large-scale acquisition of land by corporate entities in the name of developing satellite townships. He alleged that the government had given "a free hand to big corporate houses to grab land" under the guise of urban development.
