CPI(M) criticises Telangana budget 2025-26

Hyderabad, Mar 19 (UNI) Telangana CPI(M) Secretary John Wesley has urged the state government to increase budget allocations for the welfare of SC, ST, BC, and minority communities in key sectors like education, healthcare, agriculture, and housing. He warned of potential protests if these demands are ignored.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Wesley criticised the Rs. 3,04,855 crore budget presented by the state finance minister, stating it lacked alignment with the Congress party's pre-election manifesto. He pointed out that several promises, including financial support for women and housing schemes, were inadequately funded. For instance, while Rs. 2,500 was promised to women, only Rs. 4,000 crore was allocated, falling short of the required amount. Similarly, while 30 lakh families are homeless, the budget only aims to provide housing for 4.5 lakh families.
He also criticised the lack of sufficient funds for agricultural laborers, noting that while Rs. 12,000 was promised for each of the 40 lakh workers, only 5.5 lakh people are covered. Wesley highlighted cuts in agriculture allocations and criticized the insufficient budget for the BC sub-plan, minority welfare, and education, warning this would push education towards privatization.
