Court remands Rtd Additional Director of Tripura to police custody (RPT)

Agartala, Feb 13 (UNI) West Tripura District and Session judge sent retired Additional Director of Tripura’s Industries and Commerce Kaizar Debbarma (61) to three days of police custody for allegedly cheating Noida-based World Education Mission (WEM) in the name of providing land for WEM institute here.
Police said Debbarma was picked up from his house in the city on Wednesday early hours by West Agartala Police Station. At night, the court allowed police to interrogate him in their custody for three days in connection with the two-year land scam case. Four of the five accused have been arrested earlier in connection with the case.
WEM Director Himangshu Panchal filed an FIR in July 2023 against five persons including Kaizar Debbarma for illegally handing over a piece of land measuring 48.52 acres in West Tripura’s Bodhjungnagar industrial estate by submitting fake documents and taking Rs 1.25 Cr. During mutation, it appeared that some other individuals owned the entire land plots, and the accused persons forged the documents.
