Court pronounces death penalty for triple murder accused in Bengal

Baharampur, Aug 25 (UNI) A fast track court here has pronounced the capital punishment for a 30-year-old youth, convicted for killing three members of a family nearly five year ago in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.

Utpal Behra, a mason by profession, was convicted by the fast track court for brutally killing Bandhu Prasad Pal (35), his pregnant wife Beauty Pal (30) and their seven year old son Angan at their Lebubagan village home, in Jiaganj, on October 8, 2018, the public prosecutor said.

The prosecutor said the accused was pronouncedd guilty by the court on Tuesday following hi-tech evidence including digital and two witnesses who saw the assassin coming out of the victims' home with blood stained clothes.

Behra was arrested from Sagardighi's Sahapur area of the district in February, 2022.

Behra had paid Rs 48,000 as premium for two insurance policies to Pal, who gave the receipt only for the first policy. However, he refused to give the receipt for the second policy for which Behra had paid a premium of Rs 24,000, according to the court.

Pal and Behra used to regularly quarrel over this matter. Pal even insulted Behra, who then decided to kill him, the police said in the FIR. UNI PC SSP
