Could take a year to decide on caste survey report: Ktk Minister

Bengaluru, Apr 18 (UNI) Karnataka PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi on Friday said the decision on caste survey report will not be made in haste and could take a year's time as the government seeks to build consensus and accommodate diverse views.
"This is not something that will happen overnight — it could take up to a year," Jarkiholi told reporters. There are complex issues involved, and the process requires building consensus, and it requires several rounds of meetings, he said, adding, "The government must adopt a conciliatory approach, as such a decision cannot be implemented abruptly."
Responding to demands that the survey's findings be used to increase reservation for backward communities, the Minister said legal hurdles remain. Enhancing it may not be possible as of now due to a stay from the Supreme Court with regards to Tamil Nadu's case on increasing reservation percentage. He, however, stressed the need to correct anomalies in the data.
