Consultations underway with political leaders for One North East, says Meghalaya CM

Shillong, Jan 16 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who is also the national president of the National People’s Party, said that consultations are underway with several political leaders on the proposed ‘One North East’ political platform.
However, Sangma described the initiative to bring the political parties from the North Eastern states as desirable but complex. “The exercise is not a short-term political arrangement but a long-drawn process aimed at achieving what many parties have attempted — and failed — to accomplish over decades,” he informed.
Sangma said that discussions have been ongoing, particularly over the past 45 days, as previously indicated, even as described these deliberations as “significant”. However, he said it would not be appropriate to share details at this stage as no formal announcement has been made.
