Congress warns defecting MPs of protests outside their homes

Pune, June 17 (UNI) The Maharashtra Congress on Wednesday issued a strong warning to Members of Parliament elected on the support of the INDIA alliance, who choose to switch sides and join the BJP-led regime.
Senior State Congress spokesperson Gopaldada Tiwari said such defections would be viewed as a betrayal of the public mandate and could trigger widespread protests by alliance workers.
In a statement, Tiwari said voters had elected several MPs in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections based on the INDIA alliance’s manifesto and in opposition to the policies of the Narendra Modi-led government. He argued that joining the ruling camp after being elected on an opposition platform would amount to disrespecting the mandate given by voters and would undermine democratic values.
