Congress' Wadettiwar issued show-cause over absence during public security Bill debate

Mumbai, July 17 (UNI) Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar has been served a show-cause notice by the party leadership for remaining absent during a crucial discussion in the Maharashtra Assembly on the Public Security Bill.
The Congress failed to inform its own MLAs about the party's official stance on the bill, which was passed with a significant majority.
This lack of clarity led to confusion among party members. The ruling alliance introduced the Public Security Bill claiming it was necessary to maintain law and order, curb anti-social activities, and prevent violent or provocative actions. However, opposition parties, including the Congress, have strongly criticized the bill, alleging it is more about ensuring the security of the BJP rather than public safety. They argue that the bill is designed to suppress political dissent.
