Congress slams PM’s address as ‘partisan’, escalates row over Women’s Reservation Bill

‎ ‎New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) The Congress on Saturday mounted a sharp counter-attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his televised address to the nation, with senior leader Jairam Ramesh describing the speech as a “pathetic partisan and polemical attack” that, he said, undermined the sanctity of a Prime Ministerial broadcast.
In a strongly worded statement, Ramesh argued that national addresses are meant to be non-partisan and aimed at building “national resolve and confidence,” but alleged that the Prime Minister had instead delivered what he termed a “Distress Address rather than a National Address.” ‎
The remarks come in the backdrop of the government’s failure to secure the required two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha for the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, linked to the women’s reservation framework.
