Congress seeks 'correction' in foreign policy 'mistakes'

Thiruvananthapuram, May 14 (UNI) Questioning the US offer to mediate on Kashmir, Congress in Kerala has reiterated its demand to hold a special session of Parliament to discuss and "correct" India's foreign policy mistakes.
"A special session of Parliament is absolutely necessary right now to discuss and correct our foreign policy mistakes and form strategies to ensure that India's internal security is intact and the nation stands tall on global stage as we used to," the Congress said in a message.
"Modi had an opportunity to respond to US 'offer' of mediation in Kashmir in his recent televised address, but he did not show the courage to say a word. To add salt to the wounds, Trump again explained how he forced a ceasefire on India by threatening to stop trade ties. He hyphenated India and Pakistan and placed both the countries in equal terms," it said.
"Indira Gandhi's snub to the US during the Bangladesh war is a legend in history that no one can even question. Indira Gandhi did not yield to any pressure of threat and did not care about US sanctions when she went ahead with the nuclear tests."
Even Vajpayee showed the same resolve as a proud Indian during the second nuclear tests, it said.
The government must shed its ego in national interest and adopt the path of consensus, it added.
