Congress demands probe into Maharashtra's Ladki Bahin scheme, alleges electoral misuse

New Delhi, Jul 14 (UNI) The Congress today accused the BJP-led Maharashtra government of using the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana for electoral gains, alleging that lakhs of women were enrolled as beneficiaries ahead of the Assembly elections and later removed from the scheme.
The party demanded the immediate restoration of benefits to 62 lakh women excluded from the programme and called for a comprehensive inquiry into its implementation.
Addressing a press conference at the All India Congress Committee headquarters, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Atul Londhe Patil alleged that the scheme was launched despite concerns raised over the state's financial position and was timed to influence voters before the Assembly polls.
