Congress criticises MCD sealing notices, alleges threat to livelihoods in residential areas

New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee has criticised the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), alleging that its recent notices regarding commercial activities in residential areas could lead to large-scale sealing actions affecting small traders and shopkeepers.
Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav said that people engaged in small businesses across residential areas, including shops, factories, banquet halls and restaurants, are being issued notices as part of a survey linked to a Supreme Court directive. He alleged that instead of providing clarity or relief, the process has created fear among traders.
Yadav said that the Supreme Court’s order pertains to identification and reporting of commercial activity in residential zones, but claimed that MCD’s approach suggests preparation for enforcement actions, including sealing. He said this has triggered concern among thousands of small business owners operating in such areas.
