Congress Alleges 'Engineered Elections', Claims Systematic Undermining of Democratic Institutions

‎New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) ‎The Congress on Wednesday mounted a sharp offensive against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, accusing it of orchestrating a “systematic subversion” of democratic processes and manipulating electoral outcomes across several states, including West Bengal and Assam, through what it termed a “captured and compromised” institutional framework.
‎Addressing the media, Congress leader Pawan Khera described the current electoral environment as far beyond routine irregularities, calling it a “wholesale hijacking of democratic infrastructure.” In a strongly worded statement titled “Abki Baar Loktantra Ka Antim Sanskar,” he said, “What remains today is not democracy in practice, but a hollowed-out shell, captured, compromised, and controlled.”
‎Khera alleged that the BJP had operationalised a “repeatable playbook” involving voter manipulation and institutional capture, claiming that electoral rolls were being altered and results “engineered” in key battleground states. Citing West Bengal as an example, he pointed to what he described as widespread discrepancies, alleging that more than 100 seats were affected due to tampering with voter lists. He further claimed that during a recent revision process, around 91 lakh voters were deleted from the electoral rolls, while 27 lakh individuals were denied the opportunity to be heard.
