Cong tried to finish JDS, but party grew with people's support: Deve Gowda

Hassan, Jan 24 (UNI) Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) Rajya Sabha MP, HD Deve Gowda, today alleged that the Congress had made attempts to finish the JD(S), but asserted that the regional party had continued to grow steadily in Karnataka with the support and blessings of the people.
Addressing party workers ahead of a district-level programme, Deve Gowda said the JD(S) had been built step by step over the years and had strong roots among the masses. Recalling his own political journey, he said he was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly and, through the trust and support of the people, gradually rose to occupy higher responsibilities, eventually becoming the Prime Minister of the country.
He said leaders and workers across the district had come together to organise a conference aimed at strengthening and safeguarding the party. "Everyone in the district has organised this conference to save the party. All sections of the organisation have worked collectively, and party workers have come in large numbers to ensure the success of the programme," he said.
