Cong started 'vote chori' with Re 1 bribe: Ex-minister Suresh Kumar

Bengaluru, Nov 8 (UNI) Former Karnataka minister S Suresh Kumar on Saturday accused Congress of being the originator of vote rigging in India, claiming the party began bribing voters with as little as one rupee right from the first general election in 1952.
He said that at a time when literacy was low and parties had no official symbols, Congress allegedly offered voters one rupee to drop ballots into the party's box. "Even one rupee had enormous value at the time. People were lured into rigging the vote," he said, citing the episode referenced in BJP veteran LK Advani's book My Country, My Life.
Speaking to the media, he said that this early example was just the beginning. Congress continued manipulating elections in later years, including in 1999 during the no-confidence motion against then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
