Cong abandoned SIR from 2004: BJP's Om Pathak

Bengaluru, Oct 6 (UNI) BJP's Central Disciplinary Committee chairman Om Pathak today launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing it of weakening the integrity of India’s electoral process by discontinuing the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter rolls after coming to power in 2004.
Addressing media here, Pathak said the decision taken during the Congress regime had dented a crucial democratic tradition that ensured the authenticity of voter lists across the country.
“Until 2004, before the Congress government came to power at the Centre, every state used to conduct Special Intensive Reviews. The purification of voter lists was carried out with complete authenticity. But after 2004, during the Congress regime, this practice was discontinued,” Pathak said, adding that the BJP welcomes the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) move to revive the exercise.
