Concerned about Civilian casualties in Gaza, fate of Hamas hostages: Scholz

Gaza City, Mar 19 (UNI) German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed concern about civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip and the fate of hostages held by Palestinian movement Hamas following the resumption of hostilities in the enclave.
"We are deeply concerned about the civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip after the resumption of hostilities," Scholz said at a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday.
The chancellor also expressed concern about the fate of the hostages remaining in the enclave.
"My clear demand to Hamas remains unchanged: release the hostages immediately. The political future of the Gaza Strip as a whole must be discussed. The plan proposed by the Arab League offers a good basis for this," Scholz added.
On Tuesday, the Israel Defence Forces said that it was carrying out massive airstrikes on Palestinian movement Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said that the country had resumed attacks on the Gaza Strip in response to Hamas' refusal to accept the US plan to extend the ceasefire regime and continue the release of hostages.
According to the latest data from Gaza's health ministry, more than 400 people have been killed and more than 500 injured in the latest strikes.
