Class XII result withheld: Supreme Court asks CBSE to explain delay in Gulf-based student’s case

New Delhi, Jun 8 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on a writ petition filed by a student residing in Saudi Arabia, who has sought the declaration of his Class XII Improvement Examination result. The matter is scheduled to be heard next on Friday.
Pransu Jigarkumar Patel, in his petition before the apex court, challenged the CBSE’s decision to withhold his Class XII Improvement Examination result despite the board introducing a special assessment mechanism for students whose examinations in several Gulf nations were cancelled due to the prevailing security situation. Although the CBSE declared Class XII results on May 13, 2026, Patel’s result was not released and his status was marked as “R.L. (Result Later)”.
The petitioner argued that the CBSE has not clarified whether private candidates appearing for improvement examinations fall within the ambit of the special assessment scheme. He maintained that private candidates affected by the cancellation of examinations in West Asian countries owing to regional tensions should be granted the same relief as regular students. Patel had earlier approached the Delhi High Court, but his plea was not entertained.
