Citizen-centric urban governance push: Odisha to hold statewide outreach programme

Bhubaneswar, Jun 8 (UNI) In a major initiative aimed at bringing urban governance closer to the people, the Odisha government will launch a statewide “Saharanchala Janasamparka O Nagarika Bhagidari Karyakrama” (Urban Citizen Outreach and Civic Participation Campaign) across all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) from June 9 to June 21.
The 13-day campaign seeks to create awareness about civic services, government welfare schemes and citizen responsibilities while providing a platform for direct engagement between urban residents and local authorities.
Official sources said the programme is designed to strengthen citizen-centric urban governance and deepen public participation in the development of towns and cities across the state. It aims to foster a culture of participatory governance and build stronger partnerships between citizens and urban institutions in creating cleaner, more inclusive and sustainable urban spaces.

Meghalaya leads Northeastern, hilly states in NITI Aayog’s regulatory ease rankings

Shillong, July 19 (UNI) Meghalaya achieved the top spot among all the Northeastern and hilly regions in the regulatory ease category of NITI Aayog’s first-ever Investment Friendliness Index (IFI).
According to the report released by NITI Aayog, Meghalaya secured a score of 8.5 out of 10 under the Regulatory Ease pillar.

BJD to raise coal royalty, farm crisis, textbook errors in Parliament

Bhubaneswar/New Delhi, Jul 19 (UNI) Ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament beginning on July 20, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Sunday said it would aggressively raise a host of Odisha-centric issues in both Houses, including the state's alleged denial of a fair share of coal royalty despite being the country's largest coal producer, the agrarian crisis, deteriorating law and order, alleged errors in newly introduced school textbooks affecting over 40 lakh students, and hurdles in the utilisation of MPs' Local Area Development (MPLADS) funds.
