Chakma Council in Mizoram presents Rs 230 crore budget amid fiscal caution, development focus

Aizawl, Apr 18(UNI) The Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) in Mizoram kicked off its budget session on Thursday with Chief Executive Member (CEM) Molin Kumar Chakma tabling the budget estimates for the financial year 2025–2026. The proposed budget stands at Rs 230.12 crore and was presented during a session chaired by CADC Chairman Lakkhan Chakma.
Outlining the financial roadmap, CEM Chakma said the budget comprises Rs 220.67 crore under the normal grant-in-aid allocation, primarily for salary expenditure. An additional ₹6.55 crore is earmarked for non-salary administrative expenses and minor development works, while Rs 1.45 crore is set aside for village council remuneration. Of this, Rs 67.36 lakh is allocated for salaries and Rs 77.98 lakh for other non-salary needs. The council also expects to generate ₹1.45 crore through local revenue collection.
In his address, the CEM acknowledged the fiscal challenges facing the state, including the lack of additional funding in the revised estimates for 2024–2025. Despite these constraints, he said the CADC has adopted a cautious yet pragmatic approach, prioritising essential services and key development initiatives to ensure continuity of public welfare programmes.
