Centre appoints TV Somanathan as Cabinet Secretary

New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) The Central government on Saturday appointed Finance Secretary TV Somanathan as Cabinet Secretary for two years starting from August 30.
A 1987-batch IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, Somanathan is currently serving as Union Finance Secretary and Secretary, Expenditure.
According to an official statement, "The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has also approved the appointment of TV Somanathan, IAS (TN:87) as officer on special duty in the cabinet secretariat from the date he joins the assignment till he takes over as the Cabinet Secretary".
Before his appointment as the Finance Secretary, Somanathan served as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, and Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, among other roles.
Somanathan holds a PhD in Economics and is also a qualified Chartered Accountant and Cost Accountant.
