New Delhi, April 16 (UNI) A two-month-long exercise to gather information about households, buildings, and living conditions, as part of Census 2027, in the national ब्apital, begins on Thursday.
Officials noted that the first phase, known as House Listing and Housing Census, will be carried out in two separate 30-day cycles.
According to the official schedule, the exercise will run at the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and the Delhi Cantonment Board (DCB) from April 16 to May 15. Meanwhile, the areas under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will follow soon after, between May 16 and June 15.
Mapping every structure and household in the city is the key objective of this stage, and not counting individuals, which will be taken up later during the population count phase.
Over 700 trained persons will participate in the door-to-door visits, gathering information about the residents by asking a set of 33 questions covering aspects such as availability of basic amenities, ownership status of the house, and details about the head of the household, including name and gender.
Officials said the exercise will be conducted entirely through digital means, with enumerators using a mobile application on their devices to record responses, ensuring greater efficiency and accuracy in data collection.
Residents will additionally have the option to complete self-enumeration through the official online platform. For NDMC and DCB areas, the self-enumeration process ended on Wednesday, with over 5000 people completing the exercise. Under the MCD area, the self-enumeration will start from May 1, a fortnight ahead of the house listing exercise for the region.
The city has been divided into multiple enumeration blocks, covering all districts of Delhi, spanning urban, semi-urban and rural regions. The survey will also include densely populated colonies, unauthorised settlements and slum clusters.
Officials have also stressed that all information collected will remain confidential and will be used strictly for statistical purposes.
The second phase of the Census, which will involve the enumeration of individuals, will be conducted later in accordance with the nationwide Census timeline.
