New Delhi, Jun 10 (UNI) The  Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved the construction of a new Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation (CGGPOA) complex in Andhra Pradesh's capital city Amaravati, marking a significant step in the Centre's efforts to strengthen administrative infrastructure in the state's greenfield capital.

Announcing the decision after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the project would provide a modern, integrated office complex to accommodate multiple Central government departments and agencies under one roof.
According to the government, the project is aimed at addressing the growing demand for office space for Central government offices in Amaravati while improving coordination among departments and enhancing the efficiency of public service delivery in Andhra Pradesh.
Describing the project as a landmark initiative in the development of Amaravati, the government said the new office complex would contribute to the vision of transforming the city into a world-class urban centre.
"The objective of the proposal is to address the growing demand for office accommodation for various Central Government offices by housing them under one roof. This consolidation will enhance inter-departmental coordination and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of services delivered by the Central Government to the State of Andhra Pradesh," an official statement said.
The proposed campus will come up on 5.53 acres and consist of two office blocks. One block on Plot C-9 will have a ground floor and 13 upper floors, including three levels of podium parking and ten floors dedicated to office spaces. The second block on Plot C-8 will comprise a ground floor and ten upper floors, with three podium parking levels and seven office floors.
The facility has been designed to accommodate around 8,000 officials and staff members and will provide parking for nearly 1,800 equivalent car spaces. The total built-up area of the project will be approximately 23.25 lakh square feet, or over 2.16 lakh square metres.
The government emphasised that sustainability would be a key feature of the project. The complex is being planned in accordance with advanced green building standards and is expected to secure at least a four-star rating under the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) framework. It will also comply with the latest Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code (ECSBC) 2024 norms.
"The project aims to minimise environmental impact through sustainable site planning, enhanced energy efficiency, water conservation, usage of locally available materials, and improved occupant health and comfort," the statement said.
Apart from office infrastructure, the campus will include a range of civic and employee-oriented facilities such as a bank with ATM, post office, crèche, recreation room, ladies' room, a 100-seat conference hall, a 500-seat multipurpose hall and four canteens.
The complex will also feature a barrier-free environment to ensure accessibility and convenience for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities), in line with prescribed accessibility standards.
The Centre said the project is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities during both construction and operational phases. During construction, it is estimated to create around seven lakh man-days of employment annually, while the operational phase is expected to generate about 50,000 man-days per year.
The project has been approved at an estimated cost of Rs 1,299.08 crore and will be funded through budgetary support from the Government of India under the capital outlay on public works. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will execute the project through the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
The approval comes as Amaravati continues to regain momentum as Andhra Pradesh's planned capital city. Conceived as a modern administrative and economic hub after the bifurcation of the state in 2014, the city has witnessed renewed infrastructure activity following the revival of capital development plans by the state government.
