CBI court sentences 11, including FCI officials, to 3 years in corruption case

New Delhi, Apr 8 (UNI) A special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in SAS Nagar (Mohali), Punjab, has sentenced 11 individuals, including a former District Manager of the Food Corporation of India (FCI), to rigorous imprisonment for three years and also imposed a fine of Rs 3.3 lakh in a corruption case.
The court awarded the jail term to Rajesh Ranjan, then District Manager; Azad Singh, then Deputy Manager (QC); D.K. Sharma and Gian Singh, both then Assistant Managers (QC) at FCI District Office, Faridkot; Raj Kumar, R.C. Puri, Gulab Singh, Pitambir Singh, and G.P.S. Kalra, all then Technical Assistants at FCI Moga Centre; along with two private individuals, Govinder Singh (partner of Punjab Rice & General Mills, Moga) and Pardeep Bansal (partner of R.P. Agro Industries). The court also imposed a total fine of Rs 3.3 lakh on them.
The CBI had registered the case in 2006 against FCI officials, ranging from the Senior Regional Manager of FCI Punjab Region to Technical Assistants, along with certain rice millers. The allegations relate to the Kharif season 2004–05, during which substandard rice consignments were allegedly accepted by FCI officials in the Punjab region and falsely categorized as “A” grade, leading to payments being released.
