Carbon emissions in Kattakada reduced by 46.75pc: Report

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 7 (UNI) Carbon emissions in the Kattakada Assembly constituency in Kerala have decreased by 46.75%, according to the second carbon audit report, marking the first time in the country that a constituency has been audited twice to assess progress.
The scientific study examined carbon emissions in six gram panchayats of the constituency and across five socio-economic sectors. While Kattakada has recorded remarkable progress in reducing carbon emissions, the report notes that the constituency still remains carbon-positive, with all six gram panchayats emitting more carbon than they absorb.
The most significant reductions were achieved through the solar power project, the “Waste-Free Kattakada” initiative, fruit orchards, and the water conservation project. The report was released by Agriculture Minister P. Prasad. The audit was conducted by a team led by Dr. Shruthi K. from the Thiruvananthapuram Regional Centre of the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM), headquartered in Kozhikode, following the 2006 and 2019 guidelines of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
