Car plunges into canal in Mathura, four dead

Mathura, Feb 19 (UNI) A late-night drive to attend a wedding ended in tragedy in Mathura, where four people, including two law students, lost their lives after their speeding car plunged into a canal near the Magorra police station area on Wednesday night, officials said on Thursday.
The group was travelling from Mahavan to Deeg in neighbouring Rajasthan to attend a wedding when the accident occurred. According to police and local residents, the driver failed to negotiate a sharp turn along the Govardhan bypass route, lost control of the vehicle and fell about six metres into a canal.
Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the loud splash and immediately began rescue efforts. They informed the police and attempted to save the occupants trapped inside the submerged vehicle. Before the police arrived, locals managed to break open the car door and pull out two of the youths, but they had already succumbed.
