Dr. Suthanthiran, founder of Best Medical International, seeks urgent assistance from Indian government officials and relevant authorities to secure the release of advanced cancer treatment technology held in Indian Customs for more than 18 months. The equipment is intended for a proposed nonprofit cancer-treatment center in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, where it could help expand access to advanced radiation therapy for patients who cannot afford expensive cancer care. The shipment was financed through his nonprofit organization, Best Cure Foundation, with funds transferred to Global Best Cure Foundation for the intended project.

The planned installation at Ashwin Hospital/Cancer Center would use a currently unused radiation therapy bunker, allowing the project to build on existing infrastructure rather than requiring an entirely new facility.

Beyond the immediate customs issue, Suthanthiran envisions establishing as many as 1,000 nonprofit cancer treatment centers across India over time. These centers would provide preventive healthcare, primary care, medical and dental services, eye care, and wellness programs, and would develop advanced treatment technologies for cancer and other serious diseases; they would operate around the clock, providing advanced cancer treatment free of charge or at a very low cost to eligible patients.

A medical technology entrepreneur with more than five decades of experience in cancer diagnosis and treatment, Suthanthiran has traveled repeatedly over the years from the U.S. to India, met with hospitals and government officials, and explored opportunities to develop domestic manufacturing capabilities. He has raised concerns about administrative inefficiencies and alleged misconduct encountered during some of his business dealings. Suthanthiran contends that his efforts have been complicated by regulatory obstacles, substantial unpaid receivables, contractual disputes, and other business challenges, resulting in financial losses exceeding US$20 million in India.

Suthanthiran is planning a film documenting his six decades of international experience in healthcare and medical technology, including the institutional challenges, administrative inefficiencies, and ethical concerns he believes can prevent patients from receiving timely treatment.

He seeks a transparent review of the customs matter, clear guidance on any remaining requirements, and a timely decision that would allow the equipment to proceed toward its intended installation, subject to all applicable laws and regulations. Suthanthiran hopes that cooperation among the relevant authorities will allow this initiative to move forward.
