BMC targets major tax defaulters owing ₹1,500 crore, Seizure notices served to 48 entities

Mumbai, Feb 14 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has intensified its action against large property tax defaulters, issuing seizure notices to 48 major entities within a week over outstanding dues amounting to Rs 1,500 crore. On Saturday, the civic body released a fresh list naming the 20 biggest defaulters, which include prominent real estate developers, mills and other establishments that have collectively failed to clear substantial arrears.
According to details published by the BMC’s Assessment and Collection department, the top 20 defaulters and their respective dues are as follows: Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (H West) – 63,21,40,591 rupees; Rajhans Associates (S ward) – 46,05,27,065 rupees; Vimal Associates (K East) – 39,09,85,085 rupees; National Industrial Corporation (S ward) – 10,36,81,048 rupees; National Industrial Corporation (S ward) – 10,20,78,589 rupees; Yashwant Jadhav S.S.V.H Realtors (N ward) – 9,94,70,145 rupees; Ambika Silk Mill (G South) – 9,64,90,982 rupees; Shinde Pratishthan (H East) – 8,79,29,948 rupees; The Victoria Mills Ltd., Plaza Panchsheel Mill (D ward) – 8,76,68,006 rupees; National Industrial Corporation (S ward) – 8,08,70,328 rupees; Mohammad Yusuf Khan (L ward) – 7,64,89,036 rupees; A.H. Wadia Trust Skylink Developers (H East) – 7,56,78,272 rupees; Mehrunnisa Mohammad Saheb Khatib (B ward) – 7,33,80,711 rupees; The New Sun Mill Co. Ltd., Shubham Fabric (G South) – 7,19,30,047 rupees; Jai Mata Di Construction (M West) – 5,79,35,563 rupees; Transcon Triumph Phase 2 Pvt. Ltd. (K West) – 5,78,10,552 rupees; Transcon Triumph Phase 2 Pvt. Ltd. (K West) – 5,56,55,897 rupees; National Industrial Corporation (S ward) – 5,35,18,138 rupees; Elco Arcade Cooperative Housing Society D Wing (H West ward) – 4,81,12,046 rupees; and Golden Royal Talkies (D ward) – 4,22,67,415 rupees.
A senior civic official stated that seizure notices have been served under Section 203 of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act. If the property tax dues are not cleared within the stipulated time, movable assets located on the premises will be attached and auctioned under Sections 204, 205 and 206. Should the arrears remain unpaid even after this action, the property itself will be put up for auction under Section 206, as clearly mentioned in the notice.
